Losing fat as a runner is nothing like the average person Most runners try to lose fat the same way everyone else does. It never works. Running raises your stress. Running increases your calorie needs. Cut too much and your body eats muscle, not fat. When muscle drops, metabolism slows. When metabolism slows, fat loss stops. That’s why runners feel soft even when they train hard. If you want to lose fat while running, you need a plan that protects muscle. Fuel above maintenance on hard training

Marathon training in 100°F wasn't on the plan but as a slower paced runner who will tackle the Chicago Marathon, NYC Marathon, and Every Woman's Marathon in Scottsdale, AZ, you find your way around it. Today, I ran in the shade as much as possible, hydrated in advance, got in a good amount of electrolytes, and kept my pace slow and steady. On longer runs, I'll have my hydration pack with me. Anyone else training for these races or ones not listed? What's your anxieties, fears, or goals this seas

To finish the NYC Marathon with my husband this year means everything to me. He started working out with me with hopes of getting closer to some of his fitness goals and to spend more time with me. As we moved through shorter distances and powerlifting sessions together, I feel like we’re understanding each other’s worlds more than ever. I love you, Eric. Thank you for being my life partner and favorite marathoner in crime —even though you said you’re never doing another one again. 😂 Thank you

Here's my Chicago Marathon pre race thoughts. It's not hyperbole: I'm a super back of the pack slow AF runner, and I WILL be moving longer than 6 hours and 30 minutes after the last runner. In turn, I know from 26 marathon finishes and 36 marathon attempts, I WILL most likely run out of basic amenities - it is what it is. It's a daunting thought, but I've learned how to lean into the community. My number is N66191. I know what waiver that I signed. I know what comes with this. I elect to challen

34 marathons later, 8x ultra runner, 8x obstacle course racer, a 2x century cyclist, a heavy hitter powerlifter and a USPC national bench record—tell me again how I ‘don’t look like an athlete.’ I’ll wait. 😌💅🏾 I had —and sometimes still have — a hard time braining on myself but I’m not waiting for another year to practice what I constantly preach to others to do. Imma talk my shit. Hey Toya — you’re solid, babes. People are gonna clown you in your 20s and 30s for being a “fat athlete.” They’l

Six Things to Know As a Plus Size Runner 1. There's no shoes for "fat runners." Get a proper fitting/gait analysis. There's some shoes that MAY work better for plus size people but there's no specific one that I can recommend for your foot. Everyone's form is different. 2. Eat what works best for YOUR body budget - not your friend. Don't fall into the click bait commentary of "eating like a pro athlete." This may not work for you. 3. You don't have to run the entire time 4. You don't have to run

10 Lessons from a 10 Year Plus Sized Ultra Runner I've heard so many things over the years about my knees being in danger to limitations on distance. The echoes of "stick to 5Ks" or flat out "don't run until xx lbs" can be heard from gatekeepers to self professed running gurus. I've been a 10-minute runner and an 18/19 minute run/walker and nobody can take away my accomplishments. We don't have to wait for this stereotypically lean body to come along to do the things that we desire to do. Body d

Navigating summer training in this heat for fall marathons is a whole nightmare, but we can and WILL persevere. Here's how I managed to navigate 31 marathons and 8 ultra marathons as a slower paced, chronically ill plus-size marathoner. I'll be knocking out 3 more this fall. Don't let this humidity and heat take your lunch money. 👊🏾👊🏾💪🏾💪🏾 | Running Fat Chef

As a plus size slow paced marathoner, you may fear doing time based training. This year it is my goal to finish the Chicago Marathon, NYC Marathon and Every Woman's Marathon between 7 to 8 hours. I am NOT a speed demon but I still find timed based runs helpful for my easy runs, fartlek, hill and speed work. It provides adequate flexibility to my schedule but I use distance based runs in my regimen as well. I love using distance for my long runs for peace of mind, gaining an accurate perception o

I accidently slipped on 2 marathons an ultra... Alright, so boom: I left my obsessive marathon runner era back in 2019. That year, I attempted over 10 marathons. I was dumb tired after that tour. I'm currently in my fawkulookinat era. This looks like a fully loaded calendar filled with spring and fall major races. Here's the three that I finalized: Spring 2024: 🤦🏾♀️🙌🏾😩: NJ Trail Series 3 Days at the Fair (because another multisport athlete adventurer, ::cough Mirna Valerio cough:: said it

Let’s cut the bullshit early before we even get into the heart of half and full marathon season. Here’s a nuance test worth paying attention to. When someone is moving slowly—especially if they’re plus size, disabled, or not leading the pack—the response often shifts into exaggerated encouragement. It’s not supportive or celebratory but hyper visible cheering that carries passive shame. 😳The “at least you didn’t give up.” 🛋️The couch comparisons. 🙄The pressure to explain or perform a disabili
